A Little About Me: The Nova Scotia Vinyl Gal 💿
Hello Substack! I thought I’d share an introduction post since I haven’t done one yet. Anyway, let’s get into this post.
A Tiny Bit About Me:
My name is Emma, and I am 26 years old. I am from Dartmouth, NS, Canada, where I was born and raised, and I absolutely love it here. I enjoy photography, graphic design, writing poetry, drawing, and, of course, listening to music and playing the keyboard. I consider myself to be shy and quiet, but I have a big heart. Once I open up, I can talk your ear off for as long as you'll allow, haha!
I also have autism, which not many people know. But I thought it was important to share this time. Let’s move on to the music and discuss the reason I created this publication!
How I Got Into Music:
I got into music through my dad. In fact, the first two bands I ever heard were Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, and they completely blew me away. As I grew up, I started exploring other music genres as well. I enjoy several genres and sub-genres, including Progressive Rock, Post-Punk, Blues, New Wave, Folk, and Metal, among others.
Besides Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, some of my other favourite bands and musicians are Rush, Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan, Gillian Welch, Tears for Fears, Oingo Boingo, David Bowie, The Doors, The Cure, Jeff Buckley, Ronnie James Dio, Metallica, Howlin' Wolf, and many more.
I also enjoy supporting East Coast and local musicians. Some of my favourites are Joel Plaskett, Matt Mays, Mo Kenney, April Wine, and others.
Why I Created This Publication And My Goals With It:
I created this publication because I truly want to make friends and share my love of music with others. My aim is to help people connect—not just with me, but with each other as well. I primarily want to create a space for music enthusiasts, musicians, and anyone who wants to geek out about music at any depth. I love seeing people's eyes light up when they talk about their favourite bands and songs. Ultimately, my goal is to foster happiness and excitement about music among everyone involved.
The Small Story Behind My Logo:
I designed my logo all by myself, without any help. My interest in graphic design really played a significant role in this process. As you can see, the logo features a purple vinyl record with the name of this publication, and there's a cat perched on top of the record against a blue background. Blue and purple are my favourite colours so I wanted to incorporate both into the design along with the vinyl record to showcase my love for physical media. The cat in the logo represents my three cats at home, particularly my all-black cat named Raven, who is very special to me. I wanted to include her in the logo because I love cats dearly.
My Closing Thoughts:
Thank you for reading my entire post! I hope you enjoyed getting to know me a bit better. I'm excited to connect with more people and build a small community together. Have a great day!
